Ba(o)ule.

African people of the Ivory Coast, ethnically linked with the Ashanti. Then-traditional sculpture, in hard dark woods, is finely carved and highly polished. Typical works are human figurines with delicate, introspective features, or face marks, sometimes decorated with animal figures. Painted helmet-masks and metal sculptures were also produced.
